Claire Morgan Andreas Kocks James Grashow Jonathan Delachaux

Claire Morgan's sculptural installations depict, on a grand scale, the microscopic details and momentary instances of nature. Seemingly suspended in time and space, these paradoxically stylized images appear to communicate a sense of awe and wonder at the world around us, as if illustrating our constant struggle for survival. Morgan has won numerous awards and public commissions and exhibits her work internationally. In this interview Claire Morgan discusses her fascination with nature, and some of the many detailed processes involved in the making of her work.

Andreas Kocks' elaborate installations, constructed entirely out of paper, are gaining the artist increased recognition and success. Kocks has exhibited his work in galleries and museums in both Europe and America. In this interview, he discusses how a move from Germany to New York spurred a dramatic shift in his art, and the importance of persistence in finding success as a contemporary artist. He also reflects on the importance of drawing and explains how he constructs his unique paper installations.

James Grashow is best known for his imaginative, witty sculptures, which he creates using a surprising material: cardboard. The Brooklyn-born, Connecticut-based artist found his success while still in graduate school, when he was discovered by the legendary, late Allan Stone. In this interview, Grashow discusses the artistic ramifications of growing up in Brooklyn and the sources of his inspiration. He also narrates his career, from his early discovery by Stone to his latest project, one of his most ambitious yet; a cardboard fountain that will be exhibited at the Taubman Museum of Art.

Geneva-based painter Jonathan Delachaux began exhibiting in galleries as a child. Delachaux’s works have been featured in museums, biennales, art fairs and galleries in Europe, the United States and Asia. Delachaux is a two-time winner of the Swiss Art Award and the first prize winner of Art Interview 16th International Online Artists’ Competition. In this interview, Delachaux discusses how he became a professional artist and how his imaginary characters led him to a confrontational encounter with the American writer Paul Auster.
